Long Bio — Full professional biography
Alfonso D. Brooks is a cultural architect, founder, author, curator, and strategic thinker whose life's work centers on building platforms where Black identity, creativity, and belonging can flourish on a global scale.
Born in Sint Maarten, Brooks was shaped by the vibrant cultural crossroads of the Caribbean — a place where languages, traditions, and peoples converge. He carried that sensibility to New York, where he immersed himself in the city's music industry, working in records, promotion, and festival production. It was there that he honed his understanding of how culture moves people, markets, and movements.
In South Florida, Brooks channeled decades of creative and organizational experience into founding the AfriKin Movement, a cultural ecosystem that uses art, heritage, fashion, culinary experiences, dialogue, and community programming to build kinship across the Global African world. Through the AfriKin Foundation, he produces the AfriKin Art Fair, Maison AfriKin, and a growing portfolio of exhibitions and cultural programming that have become fixtures in Miami Art Week and Art Basel Miami Beach.
Brooks is the author of seven published titles spanning Afrofuturist fiction, guided journals, productivity tools, sustainability workbooks, and the award-winning Infinite Colors of AfriKin coloring series. His books are distributed through the AfriKin Marketplace and used in educational settings across the region.
A recognized civic voice, Brooks received an official proclamation from the City of North Miami designating February 24, 2026 as Alfonso D. Brooks Day. He has also received the Arts & Social Impact Award from the Arts & Business Council of Miami and a Certificate of Recognition from Miami Dade College North Campus.
Brooks hosts AfriKin Radio, an audio platform for storytelling, music culture, and diaspora connection. His work spans cultural diplomacy, the creative economy, and public culture, with ongoing ties across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas.
